The Asheville Marathon at Biltmore Estate has been selected as one of the top 10 races listed by BibRave 100 for Best Weekend Experience.

Runners who voted made it clear that they do not just want to run a race; they want to enjoy a weekend experience with their running buddies. The race was nominated thanks to a weekend filled with fun racing events including distance challenges and half marathons on both Saturday and Sunday, in addition to the full marathon on Sunday. Runners of the Asheville Marathon loved this race’s beautiful backdrop of the Biltmore Estate, and during the race, they become part of history by running through the historic property built by the Vanderbilts in the late 1800s.

This is the second time the Asheville Marathon has been selected by BibRave 100.

“In 2018, the Asheville Marathon was selected by BibRave 100 as a Top 20th Marathon in America,” says Race Director Daphne Kirkwood. “We are honored for the second year in a row, for the Asheville Marathon to be highlighted as one of the BibRave100 Best Weekend Experience events of the year.”

Daphne added she believes the selection is “spot on,” due to the full-weekend experience the Asheville Marathon and Half provides starting with a top-notch Expo on Friday, a Half Marathon on Saturday, a half day Expo on Saturday — and the Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday.

“The weekend event caters to those who want to get away to a beautiful destination, or for the regional runner a fantastic ‘staycation,” says Daphne. “It is also a unique setting to be part of the beautiful landscape and architecture at Biltmore Estate.”

Runners of the Asheville Marathon and Half also get a peak into exclusive parts of the estate that are not usually open to the public. Other race weekend highlights include unique runner swag, uniquely crafted “wood-allions” medals, and an array of activities to do in the local Asheville area such as visiting the many local breweries and restaurants. Other details that were mentioned included the enthusiastic volunteers at the aid stations, and the race surface itself, which offers a mix of road and wide dirt carriage roads. The event also offers the ability to upgrade race ticket to tour the Biltmore House and to an annual pass, and participants can stay within walking distance from the start/finish line of the race on Biltmore Estate at two of the partner hotels.
